While playdate's are certainly a new concept to me, they seem to be the going thing for my little social butterflies. It seems that I am always hosting or shuttling to and from one of these. Sometimes I actually have fun to while other times they can be quite awkward..I often wish I didn't have to deal with them at all and my children could experience what I did. Here's a little senario:
Doorbell rings....
Mom: "Yes?"
Kid: "Can (insert name) come out an play?"
Mom: "Yeah, hold on...Hey (--) Your friend is here to play."
Mom:(speaking to both kids) "You guys need to stay in our neighborhood, and be careful"
Kids: "Ok"
Mom: "You need to be home when those street lights come on."
Kid: "Yes Ma'am"
There now see isn't that much simplier that calling other Moms on the school directory to meet at the local park for said playdate. Or God forbid hosting a playdate at your house where you feel obligated to provide lunch!!
Ok, I'll admit it. My kids have a more active social life than I did...heck then I do now for that matter! But the reason I go along with the playdate torture is because I am scared to let my kids ride their bikes in my neighborhood. I don't even know my neighbors on my left and right much less down the street....
What happened to the days of drinking from the waterhose and playing so hard that you HAD to go straight to a bath when you get home.....who needed T.V. or Wii??
Anyway I gotta go, my son's playdate is getting a little loud...Later...
